Reproducible Experiment Workflows

Dr. Sebastian Gallenmüller

Sebastian Gallenmüller is a researcher at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he is affiliated with the Chair of Network Architectures and Services. He received his Ph.D. from TUM in 2021. His research focuses on computer networking, with particular emphasis on network performance evaluation, experimental testbed design, and reproducible experiment workflows. He is actively involved in the SLICES-DE project, which aims to establish a national research infrastructure for experimental networking and distributed systems as part of the European SLICES-RI initiative.

Abstract: This tutorial presents the end-to-end experiment workflow enabled by the plain orchestrating service (pos). It demonstrates how the pos framework systematically supports researchers in constructing fully reproducible experimental workflows. By adhering to the pos methodology and standardized templates, experiments are constructed in an inherently reproducible manner without imposing extra overhead on the researchers. In this hands-on session, participants will learn to build and deploy their own experiments on a pos-driven testbed. Furthermore, pos will serve as the primary orchestration framework for the future SLICES research infrastructure.

MARKLAB - Understanding International Roaming in Next Generation Mobile Networks

Viktoria Vomhoff

Viktoria Vomhoff is pursuing her Ph.D. at the Chair of Communication Networks at the University of Würzburg, where she also obtained her Master’s degree in Computer Science. Her research interests include the Internet of Things, mobile communications, network traffic measurement and modeling, and the performance evaluation of communication systems. Her current work focuses on global cellular connectivity, mobile roaming infrastructures, and the performance of IoT networks.

Dr. Stefan Geißler

Stefan Geißler leads the Next Generation Networks research group at the University of Würzburg’s Chair of Communication Networks. His research focuses on 5G and 6G systems, convergent IoT infrastructures, network monitoring, and performance modeling. He earned his doctorate in computer science in 2022 with a dissertation on evaluating next-generation data-plane architectures. His work has received the VDE Bayern Award and the University Sponsorship Award of the Main-Franconian business community.

Abstract: This tutorial presents the current state of international roaming in LTE and 5G mobile networks and provides an overview to the MARKLAB measurement platform, including a demonstration and hands-on experience of conducting active measurements in production mobile networks.
